Which class should I choose?
🛏️ 1st class sleeper
A private cabin for 1–2 people with a washbasin and air conditioning. Most comfortable and the most expensive.
🛌 2nd class sleeper
Open carriage with curtained upper and lower berths. The lower berth is wider with a window. The most popular choice.
💺 2nd class seat
Reclining seat, often with air conditioning. Cheaper, but hard to sleep well on a long trip.
🪑 3rd class seat
Bench seats with fans. The cheapest option, best for short sections only.
Tips for a night train
- Book sleeper berths early, especially lower berths on Fridays, weekends and holidays.
- Air-conditioned carriages get cold at night. Bring a light jacket.
- Berths are made up in the evening by the staff. Bedding is included.
- Long-distance trains can run late. Leave a few hours spare if you have a flight or another train.
- Most long-distance trains from Bangkok leave from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, not Hua Lamphong.
